Wouldn't it be nice to feel AT HOME in YOUR BODY?

Turn your body from Adversary to Ally:

Healing Wisdom for Baby Boomers

During my many years as a health care practitioner, I have found that working with people’s beliefs about sickness and health to be as challenging as working with their physical symptoms. We have been taught to “fight” symptoms and suppress our deep emotions.

It is no wonder that most people have an adversarial relationship with their body. It commonly manifests as anger, fear, sadness, disappointment, shame or resentment which can limit our ability to feel well. (For example, we feel sad that our body is not like it used to be, or we feel angry that we have to watch instead of participate). And yet, though these emotions are essential determining factors in our well-being, they are rarely if ever addressed.

Often these feelings are unconscious. We respond automatically and often don’t recognize the limitations they present. They are our blind spots and by definition, we can’t see these parts of ourselves. Nor can we see the underlying affect they have on our health.

Once recognized, this understanding can be a key to our wellness. We can give up our fight and instead learn to live in harmony and peace with our bodies. We can move from an adversary to ally.
